San Antonio Spurs defeated Phoenix Suns 101-100 on March 19, 2026, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, clinching a playoff berth for the first time since the 2018-19 season.[1][2] Victor Wembanyama hit a 17-foot jumper with one second left to secure the win.
The Spurs trailed 100-95 with 1:13 remaining after a 3-pointer by Suns forward Jordan Goodwin. Wembanyama grabbed an offensive rebound, drew a foul from Suns guard Devin Booker and made both free throws to cut the deficit to 100-97. Booker missed on the next possession, and Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox scored a layup to make it 100-99.
Phoenix's Rasheer Fleming missed both free throws after being fouled by Wembanyama. San Antonio called timeout, rebounded and set up the final play, with Wembanyama delivering the winner.
Wembanyama finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds. The French center, the No. 1 overall pick by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft, noted post-game distractions including wine spilled on his shorts.[3] "It was hard to take in all the stimulus around me," he said.
"Of course, the first instinct is to be proud of it ... But the key for me is to try to not care because we want to attack 82 games," Wembanyama added. The Spurs improved to 52-18, three games behind Oklahoma City Thunder (55-15) for the Western Conference's top seed. Frost Bank Center has been the Spurs' home arena since 2002, renamed from AT&T Center in 2024.[1][2]
