Cardinals' Winn unhurt in crash after walk-off vs. Mets

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn emerged uninjured from a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 late Wednesday night, hours after delivering the game-winning hit in an 11-inning victory over the New York Mets. The Cardinals said Winn's car slipped on wet pavement, with police, team security and medical staff assisting at the scene before he was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The club confirmed he was the only occupant and expressed gratitude to first responders.

Winn singled home the decisive run in the bottom of the 11th inning at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on April 1, 2026, securing a 2-1 win. St. Louis had tied the score in the sixth on an RBI from Nolan Gorman, while pitcher Gordon Graceffo escaped a jam in the top of the 11th. New York's lone run came on a Juan Soto home run after Francisco Lindor was picked off first base.

The Gold Glove shortstop went 1-for-4 in the game and entered with a .160 average, four hits and two runs scored through six games this season. After the hit, Winn described his swing as less than ideal but aimed simply at reaching base.
